Hippo Pools Camp is just over 2 hours from Harare

130km from the Enterprise Road toll gate

  • At the toll gate take a left turn onto the Shamva Road
  • Continue on the Shamva Road for 107km ‐ the last 700m is dirt road
  • Turn right into Madziwa Business Centre ‐ Madziwa Mine Secondary School is on your left and you will see a sign for ‘Umfurudzi Park’
  • Follow the road and turn right – signposted ‘Umfurudzi Park’
  • Turn left before the double gates – signposted ‘Umfurudzi Park’
  • At the T‐junction turn left ‐ signposted ‘Umfurudzi Park’
  • Follow the signs to the Umfurudzi Park gate entrance This is where National Parks entrance fees are paid
  • Continue for 6km down this road where you will see a sign ‘Hippo Pools 12.5km’, bear left
  • Along this road you will encounter two gates, please close after passing through This is the boundary of Umfurudzi Park Buffalo paddock
  • Shortly after the two gates, bear right where the road forks – signposted ‘Hippo Pools 8.5km’
  • Continue for 8.5km until you reach our car park and reception office

In the chalets you will find:

  • Fridge/freezer
  • Kitchen sink
  • Basic crockery, cutlery and pots
  • Braai grid

In the lodges you will find:

  • Crockery and cutlery
  • Saucepans and kitchen utensils
  • Fridge/freezer
  • Gas hob
  • Pantry storage
  • Towels
  • Fans in each bedroom

You will need to bring with you:

  • Torches
  • Sun cream and hats
  • Towels, if you are staying in a chalet, safari tent or camping, and toiletries
  • Prophylactic for malaria & repellent
  • Crockery, cutlery and all cooking equipment if you are staying in the safari tent or camping

You will be in a wilderness area, please note the following:

  • Our Monkeys are very cheeky, please do not feed them or leave food unattended
  • At night you may be lucky enough to hear our Hippos grazing in front of your chalet,
    you may also find a Bushbaby in your kitchen; these are wild animals, please take care
  • Borehole drinking water is provided, we do not recommend drinking the tap water
  • Please assist us by placing your cans and glass bottles in the black bag beside the bin
  • We hope you will appreciate the beautiful sounds of the bush – Hippos, Bushbabies, Owls, Hyena, etc – so as not to disturb them, music is not allowed

Our staff are on call at all times to make your stay as comfortable as possible:

Our staff clean your lodge/chalet daily, make beds and do washing up in the morning and turn down your room in the evenings. On request staff can wash clothes, we stipulate no smalls

Please note that there is a night guard patrolling the camp at night. If you have a problem please hoot twice and someone will come and assist you.
